I Met a Moose in Maine One Day - Monday, October 12th - 10:30 AM - 12:00
Author Ed Shankman and Illustrator Dave O'Neill will be visiting Kennebooks to read and sign their children's book I Met a Moose in Maine One Day.
Join us at Kennebooks from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, October 12th to take part in the fun!
"What child doesn’t love making friends with animals? But a moose?! In this lovable creation from the team that brought us The Boston Balloonies, a moose walks right into a boy’s home and introduces himself. The child narrator tells us: In Maine, as you know, / The moose come and go. / They relax in the streams. / They make tracks in the snow. / . . . That is why, in this case, / Something seemed out of place, / To be here with a moose / In my house, face to face.” Together, boy and beast play hide-and-seek (not the best game for a moose), walk to the general store, then take a tour of Maine. They fly about in a seaplane, they run the Penobscot River on a raft made of logs, they hang out on a dock in Camden, and they finish off with some “chocolate moose cake” at a cafĂ© in Portland!" - Commonwealth Editions

Hope you made it to the MEIC Art Show!
If you couldn't make it to the festivities, the art is still on display and we hope you'll come in to take a look! It will be in the store all through October.. Definitely spooky! A few artists have provided prints of their works, available for purchase. Just ask someone at the counter! Someone had a camera.. As soon as I can get my hands on some pictures, I'll post and credit them!
It's a little gloomy outside, huh? At least there's still some green on the trees.. But not for long! Halloween's definitely creeping up, and I get just a little nostalgic when there's woodsmoke on the air... I wish I had some candy corn.
So, Happy October, wish you well, and hope to see you in the store sometime soon!

9/3/2009 Store Updates!
School's starting up, the odd Maple is starting to redden, and I can't find any more blackberries. Kennebooks has been open for more than 3 months now! We're gearing up for Prelude and the Holidays already, and we hope you'll stop in.
Want to know what I'm reading right now? I'm working through Bernard Cornwell's Winter King trilogy, which is a pretty epic retelling of the King Arthur story. Instead of French and Christian (a later invention) the story is very Welsh and Pagan! It's told through the eyes of Derfel, a Saxon-born slave who fights his way to wealth and power under Arthur's regency. Bernard Cornwell is one of the great historical fiction authors of the last few decades, and I recommend this series especially to anyone who likes historical fiction and fantasy! This is an exquisite balance of the two, and I will definitely return to this trilogy. I look forward to reading his other work!
The next time you're in the store, you'll see dozens of 'Staff Review' bookmarks and shelf-talkers all over the place - we all love to read, and we're sharing our thoughts with you!

On a separate note, the weather is just awful... I'm sitting in the back office looking out at the parking lot, and I didn't know that much water could fit in a cloud.. At least everything is very green!
Stay tuned!
